Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A violent clash erupted between two factions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a civic event in Dumdum’s Seven Tanks area on Monday. The incident occurred in the presence of Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim and the Deputy Mayor at a programme organized by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s sewage department. Three people sustained head injuries in the altercation and were taken for medical treatment.
The confrontation reportedly broke out when TMC councillor Kakoli Sen arrived at the venue. As her supporters moved forward to welcome her, an altercation began with supporters of the Deputy Mayor. The situation escalated rapidly, resulting in a physical clash between the two groups. The incident took place near the main stage, just as the event was getting underway, drawing concern from attendees and civic officials present.
According to local accounts, the fight turned violent within minutes, with blows exchanged between both camps. The area briefly turned chaotic before security personnel intervened. No official complaint had been filed with the police till the time of reporting. Both groups have refrained from making public statements.
